Medical negligence: Doc, hospital to pay BD60K
The High Administrative Court has ordered a local private hospital and an Obstetrics and Gynaecologist doctor to pay BD60,000 in compensation to a foreign family following a failed delivery surgery.
The doctor is said to have kept the mother for four hours without providing her the necessary medical care while on the pregnancy due date. And this, according to court files, resulted in delivering a child suffering from 100 per cent disability as his brain was completely damaged.
The incident happened in 2009, and a medical panel formed to investigate the case found that the doctor and the hospital were both implicated in causing disability to the child.
The incident happened on August 21 in 2005, but the couple discovered that their child was disabled four years later in 2009. They accused the hospital and the doctor of negligence.
