Pianist, singer and flamenco composer Laura de Los Ángeles yesterday took Bahrain through a celebration of Spanish flamenco music dedicated to the beauty of the sea and those who dream of a better world.
The performance at the Cultural hall was part of the 30th Bahrain International Music Festival.
Accompanying the heart touching music was the famous flamenco dance.
Flamenco is an art form comprising of songs, dances, and instrumental music associated with southern Spain.
It has its roots in the folkloric musical traditions of the Roma people in the Spanish region of Andalusia, Extremadura and Murcia.
The roots of flamenco, though somewhat mysterious, seem to lie in the Roma migration from Rajasthan (in northwest India) to Spain between the 9th and 14th centuries.
Laura launched her music career at the age of 22, is credited as the first female flamenco pianist and singer.
She began her career with several collaborations, received several award nominations, and concert tours throughout Spain, Europe and Latin America.
But, don’t worry if you had missed the show, as she will continue her performance today at 8:00 pm at Cultural Hall.
The Cultural Hall will welcome people for a concert, celebrating the late artist Salman Zeman, on Saturday and Sunday.
The event is part of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and India. Indian artist Jaywant Naidu will present a concert on October 12 and 13 at the Cultural Hall.
The event is in cooperation with the Embassy of India and Bahrain.
