Arson: Verdict on June 24

Court ruling will be given on June 24 in the trial of a Saudi national accused of trying to kill his Saudi wife and sister-in-law by burning down their house.

The Saudi woman, aged 20, earlier told prosecutors that her husband, 26, poured petrol in their East Riffa apartment and set it ablaze last August while she was inside with her sister.

She said the incident started when they got into a heated argument over his husband's drinking habits. 

She explained, "He came knocking at 10pm after I ignored his repeated phone calls.  As I opened the door, he barged into the apartment asking me why I was ignoring his phone calls.”

The accused reportedly gripped her arm but her sister rescued her and kicked him out.

"He shouted that he would set the house on fire before leaving the place. We went to sleep, but at around 5am my sister woke me up as the apartment was on fire,” The woman said.

"We were nearly killed in the blaze and I injured my arm when I fell unconscious due to the smoke,” she added.

However, on March 30, the woman pleaded before the judges to immediately release the him.  He is currently in police custod
