The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomed Bahrain’s announcement of its pledge to support the four key international climate change initiatives; the UAE Net-Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Global Ocean Alliance 30by30 Initiative, the Global Methane Pledge and the Greening Government Initiative at COP26.
NIHR lauded Bahrain’s support for these initiatives, which reflects the keenness of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister to deal with issues related to climate change and to implement the sustainable development goals, as climate action is a part of the UN's sustainable development goals.
NIHR views the challenges resulting from climate change as a threat to human rights in all parts of the world.
The institution stressed that international human rights law has emphasized protecting those affected by climate change, by providing the necessary means of adaptation to provide a decent life by working to regulate the emission of global warming gases and mobilizing resources to decrease the effects of climate change.
