Airfield maintenance work at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) is now complete, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has said.
Conducted twice annually over a period of 20 days, the work is vital to maintain civil and airfield ground lighting of the runway, helping to ensure safe and smooth aircraft operations. During the process, all aircraft operations are suspended between 3:50am and 6:30 am.
“Regular airfield maintenance is crucial to airport safety," BAC Chief Development and Technical Officer Abdulla Janahi said.
"Runways, taxiways, and strip areas experience a great deal of wear and tear during normal operations. Maintaining these surfaces without disrupting flights is part of any airport’s responsibility to its stakeholders. Our Facilities Management team meticulously planned and carried out the work during periods of total runway shutdown, using all available resources and effective time management. We remain committed to delivering a safe, comfortable, and hassle-free airport experience for airlines and passengers alike.”
The maintenance work was completed in line with Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR001), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex-14, the Airport Service Manual, the Aerodrome Manual, and other ICAO standards and recommended practices.
It included asphalt patch repair, rubber removal, pavement markings, joint sealing, shoulder repair, strip grading, airfield ground lighting maintenance, and drainage line maintenance, alongside other essential work.
