Shura chairman highlights Bahrain’s ‘great progress’ in safeguarding human rights and freedoms

Thanks to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain has enhanced its standing regionally and globally in promoting the rights and freedoms of all citizens and residents.

The Kingdom’s great progress in this field, be it at the level of legislation or the relevant institutional mechanisms, was emphasised by Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh yesterday.

While receiving a delegation from the Group of Friends of Bahrain in the European Parliament, Al Saleh reviewed the kingdom’s civilisational and development achievements.

He highlighted the role played by the legislative branch, within the framework of its complementarity and coordination with the government to consolidate the national legislation and laws that support human rights, foster societal coexistence, respect pluralism and promote the values of tolerance in the kingdom.

Al Saleh also spoke about progress at the social, economic and political levels, given the fact that the protection of human rights is among the basic pillars established by the Constitution and the National Action Charter.

The Shura head stressed the importance of bolstering cooperation between Bahrain’s legislative branch and the European Parliament, as well as exchanging points of view vis-a-vis the current global issues.

He also expressed appreciation to the members of the delegation for their interest in Bahrain, and in the progress, it is witnessing across various fields, particularly the legislative one.

He also underlined the importance of exchanged visits in enhancing communication and providing opportunities to discuss issues of mutual concern.

The delegation of the Group of Friends of Bahrain in the European Parliament lauded the comprehensive development currently witnessed by the kingdom across various fields, especially education, health services, social development, security, stability and continuous economic growth.

They also commended the kingdom’s efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus, praising Bahrain’s advanced results in reducing the number of infections
