Creating seats funded by State-owned companies for Bahrainis wishing to complete their post-graduation in the Universities in the Kingdom was one of the proposals discussed yesterday by the Youth Parliament.

The session also discussed several other proposals aimed at harnessing the capabilities of Bahraini youngsters in the national building process.

The session, chaired by Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, had the presence of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, ministers and top officials.

Smart city for youth

Discussions also focused on establishing a Smart city for youth similar to that done by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, professional academies for Olympic sports in all governorates and renewing driving licences of people in the age group 18 to 21 years on an annual basis to reduce accidents.

The session also presented a request to put forward a topic for general discussion on a policy supporting entrepreneurship among the youth and amending the Law on Societies, Social and Cultural Clubs and special organizations working in Youth and Sports.

Addressing the session, Shaikh Nasser thanked His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for making the youth sector a top priority in the government’s work programme.

“Youths are the most important partner in decision making and the ambassadors of the Kingdom,” said Shaikh Nasser calling Bahraini youth a source of inspiration and creativity.

In this regard, Shaikh Nasser highlighted the importance of launching the Tamkeen Fund and the Hope Fund project to support youth projects.

“I am all ears to suggestions of the parliamentary youth in this session,” said Shaikh Nasser.

Shaikh Nasser also called on the House of Representatives to submit the outcomes to take it further ahead. Speaker thanked HH Shaikh Nasser for his presence at the session and generous support to the Youth Parliament.

“Through this, we aim to empower Bahraini youth in dealing with legislative and constitutional tools,” said the speaker.

Parliamentarians demanded the government to support youth business projects for creating job opportunities and eliminating unemployment.

They also demanded to create a platform for communication between entrepreneurs and those experienced in this field to enhance creativity, innovations, ideas and proposals and support them financially.
