Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) denied the alleged death of several patients due to Candida Auris fungus.

In a statement yesterday, SMC management dismissed the allegations posted by conventional and social media as being untrue, adding that the patients had passed away due to health complications.

“Candida Auris, a common fungus that causes oral infections, is usually found in hospitals and health facilities all over the world, including developed countries and the best health care institutions,” it said.

The statement added that this fungus does not pose a threat to the lives of patients as long as the infection is external and has not reached the blood and internal organs of the body.

The SMC infection control team carries out periodic routine checks to monitor any possible infection in the medical complex.

It pointed out that Candida Auris fungus is found in hospitals.
