Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid Health Centre in Riffa will start its trial run today ahead of the official opening.

The centre will serve as an alternative to the current East Riffa Centre.

Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council of Health, yesterday, during a field visit, reviewed the preparation for the trial run.

Present with the minister were: Board of Trustees Chairman of the Primary Healthcare Centres Dr Abdulwahab Mohammed Abdulwahab, Chief Executive of Primary Healthcare Dr Jalila Al-Sayed Jawad, SCH Secretary-General Ibrahim Ali Al Newakhdha and senior health officials.

The centre, equipped with the latest medical equipment, includes many clinics and serves a large residential area.

“It will be one of the most important health centres in the Riffa area,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“There are comprehensive arrangements in place for directing and transferring patients from the East Riffa Centre to Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa Health Centre,” he added.

The Health Ministry has also formed a team to assist the beneficiaries of the health services in the transfer process and ensure that the level of services provided during the process is not affected.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the primary health care self-management initiative is one of the most important initiatives of the health insurance programme, as primary health care is the cornerstone of health services in the Kingdom.

“The self-management project comes to reinforce these principles by creating a primary health system, self-managed by the Board of Trustees and the Primary Care Department.”

The project aims to support the health system based on primary care, increase freedom of choice, benefit from “family medicine”, and focus on health promotion, prevention, and quality improvement.
