Demanding bribes for removing violations illegally from commercial records landed a public service employee and his accomplice in the dock.
The Head of the Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecution said the Public Prosecution completed investigations into the incident.
The prosecution charged the suspect with demanding bribes and distortion of data and information in the private system of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
The man’s accomplice was also arrested and charged in the case.
The suspects landed in the police net following an investigation into complaints by company owners saying that an employee at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism is demanding money in exchange for removing violations on their commercial records through another person.
The suspect also claimed that he would not notify the ministry of their violations if they paid the amounts.
The General Department for Combating Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security investigated the complaints.
Police arrested the suspects after hearing witnesses and based on recorded conversations and text messages between the accused and witnesses.
Investigators told the court the evidence proves the hand of the suspect in the crime.
The suspects, during interrogation, also confessed to their crime and told investigators that they had committed similar crimes in three other Commercial Records in return for money.
The owners of the records, the suspect said, gave him money for removing their violations from records.
Public Prosecution ordered the suspect into detention pending investigation and ahead of referring to the Court for a trial.
They will appear before the High Criminal Court on the 1st of December 2021
