HM King Hamad deputises HRH Princess Sabeeka to attend Bahraini Women’s Day celebration

A ceremony was held yesterday marking the annual Bahraini Women’s Day.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa deputised Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) President to attend the celebration.

Themed “Bahraini Women in the National Development… A Journey of Progress in a Dedicated Nation”, the ceremony also coincided with the 20th anniversary of the council’s inception.

Addressing the event, HRH Princess Sabeeka extended thanks and gratitude to HM the King for patronising the celebration, hailing royal care for Bahraini women.

She paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, hailing his dedicated efforts to serve the nation and HM the King.

She said that this year’s edition is celebrated as Bahrain enters the phase of recovery from the pandemic, praying to Allah the Almighty to lift the disease off all the world.

HRH Princess Sabeeka saluted Bahraini women and hailed their marked contribution and dedication across of walks of life, thanking the government for its unwavering support to the council.

She highlighted especially the government’s commitment to issued the National Gender Balance Report, whose second edition reflected the efficiency and viability of policies, legislations and initiatives aimed to achieve gender balance and include women’s needs in development strategies.

She stressed the noticeable improvement in the indicators which revealed narrowing gaps, between men and women, within the main areas of the national report, congratulating the five ministries and institutions that topped the list of bodies covered by the report.

HRH Princess Sabeeka then inaugurated the Bahraini Women’s Monument “Impact” or “Athar”, which is a model of a memorial that the council intends seeks to set up to serve as a national landmark that celebrates the achievements of Bahraini women in the context of the development process and the impact of their participation in the modern development.

A documentary film was also broadcast during the ceremony, showcasing the most important objectives of this edifice, whose first phase is scheduled to open next March, near the financial center in the capital, Al-Manama.

A multi-use hall will also be set up near the edifice, to showcase Bahraini women’s achievements and success stories in innovative ways,

The planned hall will also serve as an incubator that includes a laboratory which accommodates the creative ideas, innovations and projects of Bahraini women who are forward-looking for the future, in addition to a green space that reflects the natural and agricultural environment in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

HRH Princess Sabeeka then received a book from SCW Secretary-General Hala Al Ansari, documenting the march and achievements of the council over the past two decades to enhance Bahraini women’s status.
