The Sports Cardiology Congress was termed a huge success by the Minister of Health. The Congress, Faeqa bin Saeed Al Saleh said, worked for developing protocols to reduce deaths, awareness of clinical examination and ECG testing for all athletes.

The event, held for the first time in the region, is a clear indication of the care and attention the health sector in the Kingdom enjoys from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Minister Al Saleh said this during a press conference on the sidelines of the conclusion of the Sports Cardiology Congress. The event was under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs.

The Health Ministry, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports organised the congress. The Sports Cardiology Congress, the minister said, had made several recommendations, which the Kingdom will implement in close cooperation with relevant authorities, media and the National Committee for the Control of non-communicable diseases.

Dr Adel Khalifa, the President of the Conference and Head of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Department at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialized Cardiac Centre, discussed the causes of sudden deaths in athletes, possible preventions and early diagnosis.
