Selling jewellery without an official stamp landed ten gold shop owners in the dock. The shop owners allegedly kept on display gold items not verified by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism.

As per Bahrain rules, gold traders should get their jewellery stamped by the MOICT to confirm its authenticity and quality. Public prosecution said they seized more than 140 Gold and Silver jewellery items kept for sale without official marking in shops.

The minor criminal court will start the trial in the case on Monday. The Head of Public Prosecution of the Ministries and Public Entities said public prosecution opened an investigation into the matter based on a notification from the Department of Examination and Measurements at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

Officials visited ten of the shops accused of trading such ornaments, from where they also seized jewellery without official stamps. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism provides analysis and hallmarking for locally made and imported precious metal articles.
