Bahrain will adopt the Yellow Alert Level as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus (COVID-19) starting from 19 December 2021 until 31 January 2022.

The decision was announced yesterday by the National Medical Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus following the Government Executive Committee’s approval of this precautionary step.

The move will see most activities limited to those who have been fully vaccinated with the aims of safeguarding public health amidst the global spread of the Omicron variant.

The new Omicron variant has not reached the Kingdom but the decision has been taken in line with the country’s approach of prioritising public health through proactive planning and following international best practices.

The task force noted that the decision remains subject to review, and upon further information becoming available on the Omicron variant, from internationally recognised medical research.

It stressed the need for everyone to adhere to the Yellow Alert Level procedures previously announced, making clear the importance of continuing to adhere to all precautionary measures, issued by the relevant authorities, to preserve public health.

Eligible individuals are urged to go directly to health centres for their booster shots, without the need to make an appointment.

The task force noted the importance of receiving booster shots on time to support national efforts and protect the health of citizens and residents.

Those who have already received their booster shot can follow the procedures of the Green Alert Level, an approach being taken by other countries.
