Eight-four foreign-born individuals, other than Iranians, had found their way onto the Kingdom’s terrorist list, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Those listed are either members of designated terror entities or have provided financial, technological, logistical or infrastructural support to these entities. In all, the list now has 153 individuals as Designated Terrorists.
There are 26 Egypt born individuals on the list, followed by Qatar born (21), Yemenis (15), Lebanese (11), Libyans (6), Jordan born (2) and one each born in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The majority of the listed individuals are associated with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Lebanese militant group Hizbollah or Iran-sponsored terror schemes.
The Foreign Ministry has also listed 136 entities, including companies and organisations, as Designated Terrorist Entities.
One of the most significant measures the Kingdom has taken to counter terrorism is the promulgation of Act No. 58 (2006) on protecting society from acts of terrorism.
The act defines and details the crimes considered acts of terrorism and sets out the legal elements that constitute those crimes.
And it is transnational in scope.
One of the distinguishing aspects of the Bahraini law on suppressing and countering money-laundering is that it treats the predicate offence as a source of criminal proceeds, following the international list.
