Public Prosecution has challenged a BD100 fine awarded by a Lower Criminal Court to a teacher convicted of attacking a differently-abled student as insufficient.
The punishment awarded is not sufficient and is “soft” considering the intensity of the crime, the Prosecution statement said.
The Public Prosecution had charged the woman with beating up an autistic boy who could not speak. The torture came to light when the boy’s parents discovered several wounds on his body and filed a case against her.
CCTV camera footage showed the woman, a private school teacher, beating up the kid inhumanly.
She was suspended from work in coordination with the ministry of education.
The Public Prosecution stated that the punishment wasn’t on a par with the nature of the crime.
The Prosecution told the court that the convict took advantage of the boy’s illness and his inability to speak. The woman also admitted to her crime during questioning.
