Manama rings in New Year with dazzling fireworks, vibrant music

A thousand voices screamed in unison before a giant countdown screen as lavish fireworks display lit up the sky of Bahrain Bay in glowing red and sparkling white as clock handles slowly ticked towards 2022 for a fresh start.
The scene, however, was in sharp contrast to happenings all around the globe, where governments in countries hurriedly scaled-back festivities to contain rampant contagion.
Although studies have suggested it is less deadly than some previous variants, many health authorities were taking no chances, telling people the best way to see in 2022 was at home with very few guests - preferably all vaccinated.
Thanks to stringent restrictions and vaccination campaigns, the birth of the year 2022 in Bahrain was in an atmosphere brimming with joy and happiness.
Braving once in a year rains and mounting Omicron concerns, people were still able to come together to welcome the year 2022, which numerological experts say means “Hope is Ahead”.
Festivities in the Kingdom were launched in the Avenues Park, amid a large crowd, under the watchful eyes of organisers and security men.
Celebrations kick-started with an acrobatic performance, where 11 young men and women produced a scintillating performance with lights, ropes lasting 30 minutes.
Well-known singer “Bana” also performed classical and modern songs before a packed crowd craving for a fresh start.
The UAE also pulled out all stops to usher in the new year with breath-taking fireworks and dynamic music.
Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Celebrations smashed two Guinness World Records for ‘Most Remote Operated Multirotors/Drones Launching Fireworks Simultaneously’ and secondly the ‘Highest Altitude Multirotor/Drone Firework Display.’
The 12-minute drone and fireworks performance, spanning 4.7 kilometres, produced 15,000 fireworks effects, over 130 sea pontoons and a fleet of hundreds of pyrotechnic drones.
Meanwhile, Expo 2020 Dubai produced a Times Square-inspired midnight ball drop that counted the seconds to 2022.
Saudi Arabians too welcomed 2022 with musical shows, even though some of the events stood cancelled.
Celebrations, in all, took 26 hours for the entire globe to ring in the New Year.
