The increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) will certainly boost the welfare measures and developmental programmes currently being implemented by Bahrain’s government, said Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society (BBS) President Ahlam Janahi.
She said there are concerns as to how it would affect the Small and Medium Enterprises. “But resources have to be found to carry out government welfare programmes, infrastructural development projects and other services,” the BBS head explained.
Janahi said that people who criticise the government have no idea with regard to taking the economy forward. “Saudi Arabia has increased VAT. All other GCC nations are either going to increase or implement it. We should understand the need to address various deficits,” she pointed out. “We, as citizens, should abide by Bahrain government’s move to take the economy and welfare measures forward.”
