The High Criminal Court will be hearing today the defence of a 42-year-old man accused of holding an Asian woman and trafficking her.
The Bahraini man denied the accusations levelled against him, stating that the case filed against him is malicious as the woman demands unpaid salaries from him, and she resorted to suing him on different grounds.
Investigations discovered that the man was implicated in inciting maids to flee from their sponsors by offering them better salaries and lower working hours.
According to court files, the Bahraini man locked up the 22-year-old man in a flat and he physically assaulted her.
She was saved after she managed to contact a friend, who also happened to be a maid, and she informed her sponsor.
The latter went to the police station and informed cops who rushed to the victim and rescued her.
The man was discovered to be already implicated in cases of indecent acts.
He, however, denied any wrongdoing stating that he had several women working for him as cleaners.
He revealed that he had to terminate their contracts after facing financial struggles, indicating that he kept the woman with him because he was in her debt.
