Bahrain aims to increase national employment in the Information and Communications Technology sector by 35% and train at least 20,000 citizens on cybersecurity in the next four years as part of an ambitious strategy to make Bahrain a regional digital innovation hub.
The plan also calls for increasing the number of startups in the ICT sector by 20%.
The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, said this as he launched the 2022-2026 Telecommunications, ICT, and Digital Economy Sector Strategy -a key pillar in the Economic Recovery Plan and comprehensive economic growth and development.
The strategy focuses on improving the overall global position of Bahrain in the e-Participation index of the UN eGovernment Survey.
“It will also work towards establishing a world-class digital infrastructure by developing cybersecurity standards, attracting big-tech companies, and becoming a regional digital innovation hub,” the minister said.
