Amid a surge in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, the Cabinet has reiterated the importance of being vaccinated and receiving a booster shot to strengthen community immunity.

It also underscored the importance of adhering to all precautionary measures to preserve public health and safety against the deadly virus.

Yesterday’s weekly Cabinet meeting, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, reviewed a report on the national COVID-19 response and the progress of Bahrain’s National Vaccination Campaign.

The report revealed that 94% of the eligible population have received their first and second vaccination doses, and 83% of the eligible population received a booster shot.

This has had an impact on the decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases needing hospitalisation or intensive care.

The Cabinet highlighted the government’s monitoring of global COVID-19 studies and COVID-19 variants to inform decision making on appropriate and necessary precautionary health measures.

It also received an update on the measures taken by the relevant authorities in response to the recent impact of rainwater on certain areas within Bahrain.

The Cabinet directed the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to continue to monitor residential neighbourhoods and roads affected by the rainfall and to develop appropriate solutions.
