Bahraini triathletes sweep medals in Oman event

Bahrain swept the medals in the men’s and women’s categories of the triathlon event held as part of the Bahraini-Omani Sports Day, which took place at Millennium Hotel in Al Musannah, Oman.

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) president and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with Omani Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, attended the day’s activities.

HH Shaikh Khalid and Minister Al Said honoured some of the winners in the sports day’s various competitions.

Among them were the triathlon medallists, who included Bahrain’s Omar Abdullah Hamza in the first place amongst the men’s participants.

Abdulrahman Mubarak Mohammed finished second with Mohammed Mubarak Mohammed taking third.

HH Shaikh Khalid also awarded Bahraini triathlete Sameera Al Bitar, who bagged first place in the women’s category, while Fatima Al Mahmeed came second and Maryam Mansour Al Areedh came third.

The day’s events were also attended by GSA vice-president HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain Ambassador to Oman Dr Juma bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, BOC secretary-general Faris Al Kooheji, and several other Omani officials.

HH Shaikh Khalid launched the triathlon, which marked the start of the day’s programme.

HH Shaikh Khalid also witnessed a performance of Capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art, and later visited a paragliding exhibition.
