Bahrain’s approach makes human rights a main priority, said Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal.

She highlighted the steps taken by the Kingdom in implementing its reform approaches, such as expanding the application of alternative sanctions, providing rehabilitation programmes and the open prisons initiative.

Speaker Zainal was speaking as she met yesterday with Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

She congratulated him on assuming the presidency of the current session of the UN’s General Assembly, stressing that Bahrain has always been keen to support the UN’s efforts.

The Speaker affirmed that Bahrain supports efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Zainal referred to the government’s initiatives, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence and respect for pluralism, and the importance of integrating international stances to combat terrorism, violence and extremism.

She stressed the importance of HM the King’s statement during the UN’s General Assembly session two years ago, which calls the importance of cooperation to confront all challenges.

Most importantly the repercussions of the pandemic.

Zainal affirmed Bahrain’s condemnation of the attacks of the Houthi militia targeting civilians, infrastructure and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, considering these as war crimes, and a flagrant violation of all international laws.
