NIHR delegation in Northern Ireland

A National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) delegation, which is participating in a training session on human rights in the United Kingdom, met the Jusztice Minister in Northern Ireland David Ford.

Ford highlighted his ministry’s role in running prisons and duties in ensuring international standards related to human rights in treating prisoners and detainees.

The delegation also met the Attorney General for Northern Ireland, John Larkin.

The meeting focused on the role of Public Prosecution in preserving public rights, fighting crimes and protecting human rights.

The delegation also met the Prisoner Ombudsman for Northern Ireland Tom McGonigle, who explained his role in investigating the complaints of prisoners and ensuring that work mechanisms in force are in accordance with the international human rights instruments.
