The successful launch of Light-1 into its orbit also sparked a flurry of congratulations for His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

“Such an achievement would not have seen the light without the support of the wise leadership,” said Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Minister of Transport and Communications and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Space Science Authority.

HM King’s support, the minister said, is the biggest motivator for achieving excellence and achievements. “I am honoured to extend my warmest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister,” Kamal Ahmed said.

“I also thank the brothers in the Emirates Space Agency for their support at all levels and circumstances.” The ministry also hailed the contribution of the Bahraini young men and women in making the project a big success.

“I believe this in itself is a source of pride for every Bahraini.” The ministry also dedicated the success to the Executive Management of the National Space Science Authority headed by Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, and all members of the Bahrain Space Team.

The minister said: “I am confident of their abilities to implement more projects in the future to achieve excellence and for the Kingdom of Bahrain to occupy a prominent position in the space sector.” Dr Al-Asiri said ties between Bahrain-UAE are rapidly growing in the sector.

“In addition to the joint satellite (Light 1), the Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi is including ‘elite members of the National Space Science Authority in several projects.” “This is contributing to enhancing their experience and technical skills in the relevant fields.” The authority, he said, is keen to provide opportunities for its members to keep pace with the latest technologies.
