HRH Prince Salman orders investigation into inmate’s death

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, yesterday directed General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, to form an investigation committee into the circumstances of the death of a convict in criminal cases.

HRH Prince Salman directed the minister to submit a report on the results of the investigation committee. The Crown Prince and Prime Minister also ordered to take applicable legal measures for finding any non-compliance with the regulations.

Meanwhile the Public Prosecution confirmed yesterday that the death of an inmate reported two days ago was due to natural causes. The inmate was serving punishments in connection with security cases.

Reports initially said he died following a cardiac arrest, which the forensic physician who examined the body confirmed. The Public Prosecution statement said there are no wounds or injuries on the body, citing a report by the forensic physician.

The report also confirms the cause of the death as natural reasons and linked to cardiac arrest. “A coronavirus test performed returned negative results, therefore he wasn’t suffering from a disease related to the pandemic,” the Public Prosecution said.
