The High Criminal Appeals Court acquitted a Bahraini woman charged with defamation and reversed a BD50 fine slapped in a case filed by her cousin for lack of evidence. Case files say the Bahraini woman posted defamatory remarks against her cousin on social media platforms.

A Bahraini court had also slapped her with a BD50 fine for misusing telecom devices. The woman, however, challenged that verdict by the court of the first instance and pleaded with a lawyer.

The lawyer argued that there was no solid evidence to support the claims made against his client. “After reviewing the records of the Public Prosecution it was clear that my client didn’t commit any offence. There wasn’t any proof against her.

The case and the conviction were based on the plaintiff’s statements and unclear images provided by her that included the name of my client. As a result, the provided pieces of evidence weren’t sufficient to hold her guilty,” the lawyer argued.
