The Cassation Court has upheld the sentence issued against a Bahraini man who was tried for disfiguring his ex-wife’s face by a chemical compound.

The defendant, divorced from his wife, was initially sentenced to two years in prison, but the Appeals Court increased it to five years which was upheld by Cassation Court.

He reportedly poured acid on the victim’s face following disagreements, causing permanent wounds in her face which were deemed as 15% disability.

The incident happened while the woman was at the defendant’s family house.

“I was sitting at his family house and he requested me to go with him to the kitchen to show him to use the cooker.

He locked the door when I entered and he asked me about the nature of my relationship with one of the men.

I denied knowing him and he tried to kiss me,” the woman told prosecutors.

“I refused, and I sat down. I cried and I screamed for help. However, he attacked me and attempted to strangle me.

I pushed him and he poured an agent on my face.”

“I touched my face and I was shocked to find my skin was melting.

I discovered that he poured acid on my face,” she added. The defendant said, however, that he was holding a glass and it fell by mistake from his hand.

He was charged with causing 15% disability to the woman.
