A Bahraini married woman has swindled BD4,000 out of a young man who desired to marry her, only to discover that it was a fraud, the High Criminal Court heard.
The victim, also a Bahraini national, fell in love with the accused who told him that she was single and ready to tie the knot with him. He loaned her money to please and make her happy.
However, the victim eventually discovered that the woman was deceiving him as she was already married.
He filed a complaint against her, demanding the return of the money he paid to her.
“My client was deceived, although his love was real and he wanted to conclude it with marriage,” the man’s lawyer said in her closing argument.
“He was used and cheated, and he is now paying the consequences.” The plaintiff presented WhatsApp chats as proof against the woman.
The court ruled in his favour, ordering the woman to pay the money she took from him.
