The inspection department at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism seized a commercial facility in the Capital Governorate yesterday for selling food products well past their expiry dates.
The facility, officers found, was altering the expiry dates of food products for selling to customers. Some of the products repacked had an original expiry date of 2019.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Control and Resources, Abdul Aziz AlAshraf, said the seized outlet was selling dates and dates syrup after tampering with their production dates and validity.
The shop had also employed workers to change the expiry dates of the products.
Officials seized chemicals used to remove the expiry dates, empty cans for refilling, stickers, seals, and large quantities of dates.
Most of the dates were covered with mould and well passed their expiry date of 2019. All products in the shop and the warehouses were seized.
