Parliamentarians are expected to discuss in their next session a draft Shura Law obligating employees to notify their employers at least 120 days in advance to leave their work.
The draft law calls for extending the notice period to more than 30 and not exceeding 120 days. The move, lawmakers said, aims at preventing job contract terminations from affecting business sectors adversely.
The government opposed the law saying that it would harm the interest of the workers and employers in a contractural employment relationship. Bahrain Chamber expressed its support for the law. The Chamber said the law would preserve balance in the worker and employer relationship.
However, the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions rejected the shura law saying the law intrudes on workers’ freedom. The House services committee recommended rejecting the bill.
