Preventive, curative initiatives for diabetes among Bahrain's top health priorities

Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Chairman Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa inaugurated the fourth edition of the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrinology (BDER) Conference on March 3-4.
He affirmed that the Kingdom undertakes preventive and curative initiatives for diabetes and endocrinology, non-communicable diseases as a priority in health plans and programs.
SCH Chairman said that the strategic national plan includes combating chronic diseases and diabetes and reducing economic and health impacts resulting from the increase in diabetes rates and the consequent complications.
He praised the outcomes of the conference in all its editions and added that the fourth edition will address the latest results of using technology in diabetes treatment, such as smart insulin pumps that automatically measure the level of diabetes in the blood and pump the necessary doses of insulin to control diabetes rates in the body.
The conference will also focus on the latest global recommendations for thyroid cancer treatment, one of the most common cancers in the GCC countries, the latest methods of diagnosing and treating endocrine tumours, and osteoporosis treatment.
