Bahraini couple in the dock in blackmail case

The case against a Bahraini couple accused of blackmailing a saloon owner will be heard on January 7, a court said. According to the case at the High Criminal Appeals Court, the wife, who was a regular customer at the saloon, were friends with the owner.

One day, her husband said the saloon owner was asking him to divorce her and she even offered to pay for the alimony. 

He also showed the wife the saloon owner’s naked pictures she had sent him. When the wife confronted her friend, she admitted to having an affair with him and offered her BD1000 per month to remain tight-lipped on the issue.

But during a conversation with a worker at the saloon, the wife came to know that her ‘friend’ was spreading lies about her. “The saloon owner had been telling them that she kicked me out. Infuriated, I showed the saloon worker the pictures and explained how she was trying to steal my husband,” the wife told the court.

When the incident reached the saloon owner’s ears, she lodged a complaint against the couple, accusing them of blackmailing her.

The High Criminal Court had earlier acquitted them, but the Public Prosecution challenged the verdict.
