Bahrain has pledged $1 million to provide relief aid and help meet the increasing humanitarian needs of civilian refugees fleeing Ukraine.

Ukrainians and people from other nationalities, without discrimination, will benefit from the relief, the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) said as it announced its initiative.

The initiative, reflecting Bahrain's humanitarian role, support for assisting those in need and focus on the principles of human solidarity, is in implementation of the directives of HM the King.[

It is also in response to an urgent appeal from the United Nations and the Regional Refugee Response Plan in Ukraine.

RHF Secretary-General Dr Mustafa Al Sayed said that following contacts with Bahrain-based Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Khalid Khalifa, it was agreed with the United Nations to provide Bahrain's assistance to the refugees without discrimination as soon as possible.

Khalid Khalifa commended Bahrain's initiative to support and assist refugees in consideration of their humanitarian situation and stressed that the Kingdom is among the first countries to provide humanitarian support to all without discrimination.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had called for resources to meet the increasing humanitarian needs in Ukraine.

The flash appeal for Ukraine requires funds to meet the humanitarian needs of thousands of affected and displaced people.
