The High Appeals Court overturned the conviction of a Bahraini man accused of fraud, citing lack of evidence.
The Bahraini man was earlier sentenced to one year in prison and was also fined BD1,000 after his Asian employees were found to have used counterfeit spare parts.
Five people, including two company owners and three employees, were arrested in connection with selling fake spare parts.
According to court files, the defendants owned a trading company and a warehouse, in which they were storing the spare parts.
During a routine inspection visit by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, the employees were caught to be making boxes similar to the ones that they are used to accommodate original spare parts, the Public Prosecution announced in a statement earlier.
They were selling them like they were original, having used special computer-generated barcodes.
The defendant was acquitted after it was found that he had inherited the company’s share from his deceased father and was not aware of the employees’ activities.
Meanwhile, the other company owner was found guilty due to his role as a manager with full authority
