Scores of business leaders, from prominent businessmen to SME owners and small-scale traders, flocked to Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sanabis yesterday to cast their ballots for electing the new board of directors.

The election followed energetic campaigns led by Tojjar Bloc, Riyadh Bloc and many independent candidates.

Unlike previous elections, many young businessmen, as well as woman entrepreneurs, were seen actively taking part in the voting process, highlighting the transformation the Kingdom’s business sector has been witnessing. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, Dr Abdulla Bader Al Sada, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the election process has been a historic one in terms of setting a new revolution through the exploration of the latest technologies in registration, data collection and analysis and voting.

“The organising methods are more scientific and sophisticated this time compared to previous elections.

We have 36 station desks and six help desks to address the requirements of all voters.

“We have 100 per cent updated our system as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

Our data is cloud-based and is protected against any kind of hacking or other malware attacks.

“During the past three months, we have created a special team to carry out the electoral process.

Many university students have also volunteered with us to make the process a great success.”

He said only electoral staff and members of the election committee at the Chamber are allowed in the registration area to ensure the highest credibility.

Dr Al Sada pointed out that the election is of great importance as the Chamber functions in the larger interest of all businessmen in the Kingdom as it is the link between the entrepreneurs and the government.

“We are the voice of businessmen in the Kingdom,” he said. “The incumbent chairman of the Chamber holds the Chair of Association of Gulf Chambers and this highlights the Chamber’s growing role in boosting business opportunities between Bahrain and other GCC countries.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Tribune earlier, Sameer Nass, incumbent BCCI Chairman and head of Tojjar-22 Bloc, said growth and sustainability remain the key pillars of the Tojjar-22 campaign.

“We want to continue our ongoing efforts for the welfare and progress of businessmen in the Kingdom.” The leading businessman in the Kingdom, who is the Chairman of Nass Group, said the success of the incumbent board about matters related to the Kingdom’s business community bears testimony to the future commitments.
