Formula One is fuelling Bahrain’s hope to emerge as the best tourism destination in the Middle East. Formula One Federation has already confirmed that Bahrain will stay on the F1 calendar until 2036. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, British citizen Thomas Clarke said: “The Bahrain Grand Prix has been a brilliant race on the F1 calendar since 2004. I am sure that this opening race of the season has become a favourite with all the fans, drivers, and the teams. “The incredible and outstanding facilities at the circuit for both the racing and for the fans have recently undergone further boost, ensuring that the circuit remains the best and offers the best fan experience.
The Formula One fans gathered here to watch the season opener have made the Kingdom’s hotel occupancy rates touch its peak. According to latest estimates, the occupancy has touched a whopping 100 percent at many of the leading hotels in the Kingdom. A general manager with a leading hotel in the Kingdom said the increase in tourist arrivals is giving a real boost to the hospitality sector, which is in its post-pandemic recovery mode.
French citizen Arnauld Ross said Bahrain is already a most sought after tourist destination for citizens from European Union countries. “Bahrain is fast becoming the tourism capital of the Middle East. I am sure this success will grow by leaps and bounds,” he said. Moko from Senegal who has never missed any Formula One event for the past 37 years said the Kingdom deserves to be the centre of motorsport tourism as it opened the eyes of other Middle East nations by hosting the first Formula One race in the country in the year 2004. “With the latest technologies and engineering techniques in place, this season opener in Bahrain is living up to the dreams of visionary automotive engineer Colin Chapman who revolutionized Formula One.”
Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom, in collaboration with Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority earlier announced the launch of holiday packages for the upcoming Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The collaboration will see Gulf Air and BIC offering special air and race tickets and BTEA facilitating hotel accommodation and tourist entry visas to Bahrain.
