Bahrain a cost effective destination: EDB official
Bahrain is a cost-effective destination for businesses to operate compared to its peers, according to the Chief Executive of Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), Khalid Al Rumaihi. “The cost of doing business in the Kingdom is only 60 per cent of the cost incurred in other countries in the region,” he commented.
Rumaihi was addressing a luncheon organised by American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) at the Four Seasons Hotel.
He spoke about the EDB’s role in supporting Bahrain’s status in the region as an investment hub, as well as new initiatives in developing economic sectors and fostering investment opportunities.
“The EDB focuses on specific sectors, based on the unique value proposition on offer for investors, to attract new investments to the Kingdom,” he said.
Listing out sectors like hospitality, business outsourcing, construction, manufacturing, he explained that efforts were undertaken by the EDB across the globe to drive investment to the kingdom.
He also said that the geographical proximity of Bahrain to Saudi, which accounts for half of the trillion- plus GCC economy, is a great leverage for the Kingdom.
“Various infrastructure efforts undertaken in Bahrain, including the expansion of Aluminium Bahrain and airport is expected to add a tremendous boost to the local economy,” he pointed out.
The CEO added that during his visit to other countries, many expressed interest to invest in Bahrain. Meanwhile, Chinese companies have shown good interest to invest in Bahrain and a few investments are expected to materialise in the coming years.
