“ Let us make our national identity, not just a slogan, but that of belonging and giving.” This is crucial, the minister said, for the security challenges Bahrain facing are of such a nature. He also stressed that building our national future depends on protecting our traditions and identity.

“I’m highlighting such an aspect because of the security challenges we had faced and targeted our social cohesion.” General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, was speaking on the occasion of a celebration to mark the Community Partnership and Belonging to the Nation Day.

Education Ministry, General Attorney, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Minister of Works, Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning, Health Minister, Information Affairs Minister and Youth and Sports Minister were present.

Interior Minister is also the Head of the Following-Up Committee of the National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Nationalism. Bahrain yesterday celebrated the third anniversary of the National Plan to promote the spirit of belonging.

The ministry further reminded that “Building our national future depends on the extent of our adherence to our customs, traditions and identity.” “This also requires us to transform “initiatives into a tangible reality that enhances the safety and security of the nation.”

Objectives achieved

The National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Nationalism achieved most of its objectives. “We also implemented most of them despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic,” the minister said.

The project, the minister said, launched more than 100 initiatives to date. It aims at protecting the authentic values and traditions of the children of Bahrain, maintaining national security and stability by reinforcing the sense of belonging and thus strengthening the harmony among all sections of society.

The minister further stressed that the age of cyberspace and information technology “allows us to enhance our national identity globally through the virtual world.” “Our cyber borders are determined by our national cyber participation and activities to protect our Bahraini identity in the virtual world.”

He added: “This requires formulating a future vision, implementing interactive initiatives and influential programmes within the framework of social responsibility, and strengthening the national system to consolidate the values of loyalty and belonging.”

The minister also highlighted that the community programmes and initiatives implemented have reinforced the values of loyalty and belonging to the nation. Discussion sessions highlighted the main achievements of the plan launched on 26 March 2019.

Later, the minister honoured private sector institutions that supported the work of the plan in appreciation of their national partnership in implementing the initiatives.
