Bahrain has imposed a two month ban on the fishing, trading and selling of crabs. Effective from March 15, the ban would continue until May 15 2022. Ibrahim Hassan Al-Hawaj, the Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, said the decision is as per Resolution No. (52) of 2016 regarding the ban issued by the Minister of Works.
The ban aims to stop fishing during the breeding period to preserve marine wealth and biodiversity in the territorial waters of Bahrain. Marine control teams will start monitoring to prevent violations or abuses of the decision and ensure that Bahrain's marine wealth is protected.
