The Bahrain Food Festival, which is currently taking place at Bahrain Harbour, has so far welcomed 73,167 visitors in the first seven days of its launch, from March 19 to 25, representing a 39 percent increase over the same festival in 2019. According to the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the increase is also 187% higher than the same period of the festival in 2020, when the number of visitors during the first week of the festival reached 25,420, despite the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time.

Due to the same health challenges imposed by the pandemic, the authority decided not to hold the festival in 2021. BTEA is expecting the numbers to further increase during the second week of the festival, which will conclude on April 1 due to its popularity, improved weather conditions, and the desire of more people, particularly families, to visit before the Holy Month of Ramadan. It also said that the number of restaurants participating in the event increased by 32% compared to 2020, with 120 restaurants participating in this year’s edition, up from 91 in 2020.

BTEA Chief Executive Dr Nasser Qaedi expressed the authority’s delight for this success, adding that everyone, including citizens, residents, and tourists, as well as participating restaurants that achieved good sales, is a partner in this accomplishment. He added that the large turnout reflects Bahrain’s tourism sector’s state of recovery and serves as an example of the sector’s flexibility and vitality, as well as its ability to return to previous growth rates, if not exceed them, and to enhance its role at the forefront of promising sectors in the government’s economic recovery plan, which was announced last November.

Currently, visitors can enjoy more than 120 restaurants that serve a variety of food, drinks, and desserts. Another highlight of this year’s festival is the “Cooking Corner,” which features several wellknown Bahraini chefs preparing and cooking various types of cuisine in front of the public in a unique interactive setting.

The current session will also include a variety of events and exciting activities, as the festival will include Bahraini artists performing a variety of musical and artistic acts. Visitors will also have access to a recreation area and a children’s play area. Throughout the event, raffles for prizes are held in collaboration with hotels and restaurants in Bahrain.
