Illegal veterinary clinic found in Budaiya closed

Authorities have found an illegal veterinary clinic recently and the matter has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

According to a statement issued by the Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry yesterday, the clinic illegally prescribed large quantities of narcotics and the matter is being investigated more.

The statement affirmed that the clinic was detected while conducting inspection campaigns by the Clinics Department in the Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs Ministry.

“Inspection visits to veterinary pharmacies during the past few days indicated that many prescriptions were issued by a fake pharmaceutical establishment that isn’t registered and has no address,” the department explained. It was also noticed that large quantities of Ketamine Hydrochloride drug were prescribed. The drug is used as a soporific for animals and humans alike.

“Veterinary surveillance personnel preserved all prescriptions and documents related to the case and referred to the security authorities concerned as per the followed rules, regulations and administrative procedures, ” the department said.

The Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs Ministry called upon all veterinary outlets and pet owners in the country to report any similar violations to the authorities, considering public safety.

The department affirmed that the unscheduled inspection visits to veterinary clinics and pharmacies would continue, warning that any violating establishment would face legal procedures, including immediate shutdown.

The only public veterinary clinic, which was located in Budaiya, was closed down by the authorities last August. No explanation was provided from the authorities then.
