Students from public schools across Bahrain have come forward to share their experiences after nearly a month of returning to schools for in-person classes, where students say they are thoroughly enjoying their back-to-school days in the company of friends and teachers.
Bahrain began welcoming all students for in-person classes from March 14. However, parents had the option to decide between in-person attendance or distance learning for their children.
Students say they are overwhelmed with joy after participating in various activities and meeting friends after a long hiatus. Youssef Fouad from the fifth grade of Al-Razi Primary School for Boys said, “In-person classes are much better than virtual classes for it gives me the skills that I may not find virtually and allows me to communicate quickly, directly and clearly with teachers.
Thanks to the school and the Ministry for these efforts.” His classmate Mujtaba Hassan expressed his feelings by saying: “I cannot describe how happy I am at attending the school, where I met my friends and teachers, and I have a good time which I missed during virtual days, and I was able to achieve more grades after attending.”
With a beaming smile, Ali Mahmoud, from the sixth grade, said: “When I heard the news of returning to our schools, I asked my father to choose in-person classes without hesitation, as I missed my school, teachers, friends, and the wonderful school atmosphere, especially the sports and computer classes, and the learning resource centre that belong to the student committee.”
Student Aisha Al-Dosari, from the third preparatory grade of the Budaiya Primary Preparatory School for Girls, said: “I was excited to meet my friends and teachers, and the welcome we received was beautiful and motivating from the first day.”
Maryam Osama from the second preparatory grade said: “In the beginning, I felt wary of mixing with the school, but the preventive measures that the school followed reassured me a lot, and the fun of education was greater.”
Mazen, from the first preparatory stage, said: “The feeling of returning to school was very nice, and our teachers are making great efforts in distance education as well, but in-person classes are more beautiful and better, and we feel that the atmosphere is back to normal and comfortable in school as it was before the pandemic.”
The Ministry of Education had previously announced the return of in-person education, five days a week, in all public schools, with the option of distance learning remaining through digital platforms for willing parents and students.
