Zakat and Charity Fund distributed BD4 million in 2021

The Zakat and Charity Fund at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments announced an increase in the volume of social care and community partnership projects implemented by the Fund during 2021, which included contributions to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The head of the Zakat and Charity Fund, Shaikh Salah Haider, said the total value of the projects and the annual zakat for 2021 amounted to more than BD4 million.

The Fund spent BD15,000 to provide monthly financial assistance for a year to 25 needy families, BD10,000 for 36 families to purchase household electrical appliances and BD9,500 to 600 families through the school coupons project.

The school coupons project for purchasing stationery, Shaikh Salah said, aimed at easing the burden of families in need registered for the Zakat and Alms Funds.

The Fund spent BD15,000 through the Ramadan Basket Project to distribute 575 food baskets and coupons to low-income families during Ramadan.

Shaikh Salah said the Fund also distributed monthly food coupons, whose total cost amounts to more than BD8,000, to 35 families for a year. “The Fund distributed coupons in cooperation with a major shopping company,” said Shaikh Salah.

He further pointed out supporting Children with Cancer through the Smile of Hope Project in cooperation with the Future Youth Association. “The project spent BD10,000 for 15 children to cover their therapeutic, drug and health needs.”

The Fund also contributed computers to children of martyrs for virtual classes through the “Your Children are Our Children” project. The project, executed in partnership with the Royal Fund for Martyrs of Duty, benefitted 31 and cost the Fund BD5,000.

The Fund also distributed a Coupon each to 1950 students to buy winter clothes. “The Fund spent BD15,000, this way, to reduce the burden on families in need.”

The Zakat and Charity Fund, through the “Sahem AlGharmin project”, now in its fifth edition, paid BD3.9 million to clear the debts of 938 insolvent persons. The Fund also disbursed amounts less that BD1000 to earning families to face exceptional circumstances after verifying their eligibility. This project benefited 43 families and cost the Fund BD24,000.”

The Zakat and Charity Fund further noted that doors are open to those who wish to donate and participate in the Fund’s projects.
