A 62-year-old expat employed by a laundry underwent four surgeries in a day on his right leg after being diagnosed with acute diabetic neuropathy. Indian national Abdul Shukoor C K came to Bahrain two years ago to support his family back home. However, according to social worker Ashkar Poozhithala, health issues, especially diabetes, has been haunting Abdul Shukoor since his arrival in Bahrain.
“He is a single father having three children aged 12, 10 and eight - two daughters and one son. His children were earlier living in an orphanage and are now with his sister, who lives in a rented house in Thalassery, Kannur district in the South Indian state of Kerala.
“His situation is pathetic, something we can’t even imagine. His three children stay along with his sister and family; eight members of the family live in a small rented home. Whenever he visits the children, he would sleep on the veranda as there is no place to move inside.”
Ashkar said, nearly three years ago Abdul Shukoor left Bahrain to live with his children, “but had to return as there were no means to make both ends meet”. Those who would like to know more about Abdul Shukoor can contact social worker Ashkar Poozhithala on +973-3395 0796.
