In this era of the connected world, staying disconnected is a nightmare. Twitter, Whatsapp, Facebook, YouTube, there are umpteen social media platforms for people to meet, greet and thrive, thanks to smartphones. But what if that 'little' device that keeps you virtual runs out of power, and there is no power source in the vicinity to fire it up.

Big trouble, isn't it? Don't worry! Kids in the Kingdom have a solar solution if you are in such a situation. No, matter where you are, if, under the blazing Sun, your smart devices won't stay dead. The brains behind this solar invention are Malik Hussein Abdul-Jalil and Fatima Hussein Al-Afghan from Omaima Bint Al-Numan Secondary School for Girls.

The little champions have created a small and lightweight, and portable solar-powered charger that can power up various types of electronic devices. The students say their focus was on reducing electrical energy consumption and preserving the environment, as renewable energy also does not pollute and reduces carbon emissions.

In fact, the world has already started saying that Sun is a great way to save on electricity bills! So, no wonder the portable solar charger went viral and Bahrani is now showering them with praises. Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education, yesterday received the two students and praised their efforts.

The minister said the ministry is keen on helping students through the Gifted Students centre to further boost their talents. Malik and Fatima were also honoured by the Electricity and Water Authority. Hashemiya AlSayed Kazem was the guiding force of the two students in their renewable power dreams.
