The High Civil Appeals Court upheld a ruling requiring a woman to refund BD18,000 to the General Organisation for Social Insurance (GOSI) after receiving her late father’s pension for 10 years despite getting married.

When the woman’s father died, she was entitled to his pension. She did, however, marry, and she was paid for five years before it was discovered.

As a consequence, GOSI filed a court case against the woman, demanding that she pay the aforementioned amount of money, which is equivalent to the amount she received.

“According to law, the beneficiary of pension is required to notify the competent authorities in the event they got married in order to make the necessary steps, including ceasing payment of the pension to her. However, the woman failed to do so. Thus, she has to pay BD18,000 to GOSI,” the court ruling states.
