The economic recovery plan successfully created 7,740 private sector jobs for citizens in Bahrain during the first quarter of 2022, according to Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan.

“This is an increase of 32 per cent compared to the same period during last year,” Mr Humaidan said, adding that the initiative is very much on the right track. “The economy is on a positive trajectory and this is being reflected in the labour market. More jobs are being created across the sectors of the economy.”

The minister stressed that this success could be attributed to the joint cooperation between the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), Labour Fund Tamkeen and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“After the tough time of the pandemic, we are moving forward with the economic recovery plan.” He highlighted the financial sector as the champion among all sectors as it led to the creation of new jobs with 184 per cent increase.

The manufacturing sector came second with an increase of 111pc in terms of creating new jobs during the first quarter of the current year. The minister praised the governmental efforts to boost the labour sector through new skills development training programmes.

“There has been a sharp increase in the employment of university graduates in the private sector.” He stressed that the number of internships offered during the period saw an increase of 36pc. “Over 3,700 Bahraini citizens were offered the opportunity to work as an intern during the period.”

He emphasised the continued focus on training and internship programmes, which are pivotal for skill development among the qualified citizens. Mr Humaidan spotlighted the importance of co-operation between the various competent authorities to continue the achievements of the labour sector, under the economic recovery plan.

He praised the Labour and Social Development Ministry employees for their hard work in the implementation processes of ministry initiatives and objectives. “The labour market is more stable and it will continue to grow in the coming days,” he added.
