Sewage network covers 82% of Eker, says works minister

The Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf, announced bringing 82% of the Al-Eker region into the sewage network by linking large parts of complexes 623, 624, 625 and 626 in the prior years.

“Connecting remaining areas in complexes 623 and 624 are progressing fast,” said the minister. Elaborating, the minister said they had implemented several projects to pave roads in the Al-Aker area, which included that in complex 626, 623. Sanitation service reached complexes 623, 624, 625 and 626 in previous years.

“The ministry is currently working to pave dirt roads in 624 to serve 350 real estate units, besides extending rainwater drainages, providing lighting poles, laying ground channels and other works.

“Repaving of road No. 2440 in Block 624 and the surrounding areas began in May 2021 and would complete in the second quarter of this year.

“The project awarded to Eastern Company for Asphalt and Concrete has reached 60% completion.” Concerning the sewage network, the minister said they are working to connect areas in complexes 623 and 624, which include projects to connect real estate units on roads (2371 - 2373) in the complex (623) to the sewage network. Work began in February 2022. The completion rate is 80%.

“The project awarded to Yoko Engineering would complete in the second quarter of this year.” The ministry, he said, is also building a mainline to reduce the burden on the network in the Sanad area, which would connect several areas in Sanad, Nuwaidrat and Al Aker.

The project, expected to start in the third quarter of 2022, would complete in 18 months. On the Ma’ameer Walkway and Coastal Project, the ministry said they completed the project, which has an area of 800 meters. Khalaf said the ministry is also working on several infrastructure projects, the implementation of which depends on the completion of detailed designs, obtaining approvals and allocation of funds.

On the priorities and challenges, the minister said the most prominent of these challenges is coordination with services, especially in the old areas, where many ground services require protection or transportation.
