The High Criminal Appeals Court has acquitted a woman of stealing equipment from a makeshift restaurant due to a lack of evidence. The woman had already been sentenced to six months in prison, but her counsel was able to show the court that she was the owner of the commercial registration under which the restaurant was established, whilst the plaintiff failed to present any piece of evidence proving his ownership of the equipment.
The two are said to have entered into a partnership to open a make-shift restaurant during the camping season between 2019 and 2020 in the Southern Governorate. However, the plaintiff filed a case accusing the woman of embezzlement. As a result, she was sentenced to six months in prison, and the High Criminal Court set bail worth BD50 to suspend the execution of the punishment, pending the outcome of her appeal.
